It’s Starting to Feel Like Christmas!

As I’ve written about previously, I moved to a new home this past spring. For the six months or so previous to that, I was living out of boxes, preparing to move. So, this last Christmas, I did something I didn’t think I’d do. *Whispers* I BOUGHT store baked cookies…..

Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t judge those who do buy cookies. People do it for various reasons. They are too busy or yes, people just don’t like to bake!  I know!  Shocking, right??? But, it’s ok. We love them all the same :).

But, buying cookies is just NOT me. I love baking. Cakes, cookies, brownies… So, this year I am super excited that I’m able to start baking again!  My sister is having her annual Christmas party this weekend, and I signed up to bring cookies.  I am making the regular ones. Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodles. May even make Peanut Butter cookies too. I did some research on chocolate chip cookies and how to make them so they aren’t flat. I tried something I found of adding 1 extra egg yolk for every egg added. For the two sticks of butter, add another teaspoon of butter. They tasted pretty good!

I also make Christmas chocolates. You know the ones. Melt the chocolate and put them in their molds. Out pops pretty Christmas shaped chocolates!  I haven’t made fudge in awhile, so I’m hoping to do that as well!

To me, baking brings in the Christmas feelings!  Turn on Christmas songs and get to baking!

What makes it feel more like Christmas to you?  Do you have any traditions that you carried into your adulthood from your childhood?  Did you start new ones as an adult?

  1. GASP! LOL just kidding, I get it – I do. I love making home made cookies as well and nothing you can buy in a box beats that! I am so glad you are settling in now and can get back to baking!
For us holiday starts when the tree goes up which we still have to do but that is happening this weekend! Then we go see the holiday lights, come home and watch movies. 🙂

  2. I also love baking and store bought is just not the same. Besides you don’t get the great aroma through out your home with store bought. Enjoy baking up a storm.

  5. I’m the same, I’m all about making our cookies, especially during the holidays! That’s actually one of our traditions–Christmas cookie making and gingerbread houses!

  6. We always would go to my grandmothers to decorate the Christmas tree for our start of the Christmas holiday. Now we have the grandchildren and great grandchildren go to my mom’s house to decorate. My mom really gets a kick out of it and so does everyone else. Thanks for sharing your traditional start to the holiday.

  8. I love to make a few flavors of cookies and then have a cookie swap! Swapping cookies with friends is such a fun way to get together and share the Christmas spirit.

  9. We just had our annual Christmas baking day at my parents house yesterday. It’s so much fun to cook batches and batches of cookies with the family. Not too mention they are so tasty 🙂

  10. I asked my husband about this, since he does the majority of the cooking in our house. He said that he grew up in a house where there was a lot of cooking (including cookies) done at Christmastime. He said he prefers homemade cookies but can definitely see why people buy them instead of baking.

  11. I love baking too but haven’t had time for a while to do some serious baking. Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite. Have to try the tips you mentioned!
