Weight Loss Journey ~ The Beginning

Yesterday I took my first Phentermine pill to start my weight loss journey.  This will be a pill that I take over the course of a year.  Studies show that the average weight loss while on Phentermine is 24 lbs.  So, depending on what you do during this time you can lose more or less.  As I am at my highest weight right now, even losing 24 lbs, I would be ecstatic.  Although, I am looking to lose a minimum of 60 lbs. I’ll still be overweight, but, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I know people say, “love the skin you have”. And I do!  But, I also have health issues with high cholesterol. My thyroid medication is higher than it should be and is currently suppressing my thyroid. I don’t want to lower the dose though, because I’m afraid I’ll gain even more weight. So, I do hope that once I’ve dropped some weight and remain on my healthy habits, I’ll be able to lower that dose. Fingers crossed.

At this time, I’m not going to post how much I actually weigh right now. I’ll post that once I’m down a little bit lol.  I do have a tracker off to the side that will change each week when I update my weight. I’ll probably do a blog post every two weeks with my success or my failures.

While taking Phentermine, I know that there will be side effects.  Some of them include:

  • Dry Mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty Sleeping
  • Irritability
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation

I did take the first dose today. So far, none of these have occurred.  Uncommon symptoms that may occur per WebMD, that are serious and should be reported immediately are:

  • fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat
  • mental/mood changes (i.e. agitation, uncontrolled anger, hallucinations, nervousness)
  • uncontrolled muscle movements
  • changes in sexual ability/interest

So, there are the basics for this. Right now, I know I’m not suffering from Sleeping issues as I am tired and about to go take a nap after writing this post lol.

I will be increasing my movement during the day (obviously not during my nap time mentioned above). I have the fit bit and will get that charged up again and resume wearing it tomorrow. During breaks I’ll walk more around my work complex. Every little bit helps.  I’ll work in some cardio and strength training. Jumping Jacks, Sit Ups, Push Ups, etc. I’ll work in more weights as I build up my muscles. I will need to start hitting the gym at my job too.  I know.  Why aren’t I using it more??? I have no idea.

Ok. So there’s the beginning of my weight loss journey. I am hoping to keep myself motivated and that keeping myself accountable by posting about it every two weeks will help.  I know I tried it before, but, I don’t think I was as motivated as I am now.

Stay tuned!

  1. Good luck! I think my sis tried this or my mom – forget which. I just can’t bring myself to try, but I will follow along as I am curious how it works for you 🙂 Good luck!

    • I was talking to one of the insurance companies we have an option to use about open enrollment questions. The representative confirmed that this pill isn’t covered by cigna, and gave me suggestions on how to get it cheaper. She said she used it herself and had lost 40 lbs on it.
